Skills Bootcamp

This Skills Bootcamp provides specialist training in electric and hybrid heavy vehicles such as buses, trucks, and other large commercial vehicles. Training is delivered entirely in person at our Castleford workshop facilities, ensuring hands-on experience with real vehicles and components.

Learners will achieve:

• IMI Level 3 Award in Heavy Electric/Hybrid Vehicle System Repair and Replacement.
• IMI Level 4 Award in the Diagnosis, Testing and Repair of Electric/Hybrid Vehicles and Components.

This course is ideal for:

• Vehicle technicians (cars, vans, trucks) looking to upskill into EV specialism.
• Self-employed technicians who want to expand their EV service offering.
• Career changers or returners to work seeking a pathway into the green transport industry.
• Unemployed individuals who are ready to enter work after training.

Prior experience in vehicle maintenance and repair required.

You will gain knowledge and hands-on skills in:

• EV fundamentals and high-voltage safety.
• Diagnosis and repair of electric motors, batteries, and charging systems.
• Component testing and fault finding.
• IMI-accredited training aligned to current industry standards.

• Duration: 8 days(over 2 weeks), full-time.
• Format: In-person, practical training in Castleford.
• Commitment: At least 60 guided learning hours (GLH), with active participation required throughout.

• Learners: Training is fully funded – there are no fees if you meet the eligibility criteria.
• Employers: A co-funding contribution applies for employed learners:
  • 10% of training costs for SMEs.
  • 30% for large employers.
  • Self-employed learners – no cost

Learners must:

• Be aged 19 or over at the point of enrolment.
• Have the right to live and work in the UK.
• Be resident in West Yorkshire or South Yorkshire.
• Be willing to attend all training sessions and take part in post-course tracking for up to 6 months.
• Prior experience in vehicle maintenance and repair

On completion, you will be guaranteed a job interview. Potential outcomes include:

• Employment as an EV Technician or EV Service & Maintenance Engineer.
• Progression to a higher-level role within your current workplace.
• New opportunities to grow your EV services if you are self-employed.
