Pelican EV Automotive Training are delighted to offer funded skills bootcamp training in heavy electric vehicle systems

Pelican EV Automotive Training is now offering access to funded Skills Bootcamp training through the West Yorkshire Combined Authority, supporting the region’s drive to upskill its workforce in electric vehicle technologies.

This funding enables technicians and employers across the region to access nationally recognised qualifications from The Institute of the Motor Industry, focused on high-voltage systems for electric buses, trucks, and coaches — all delivered at Pelican’s dedicated EV training centre in Castleford.

The programme is specifically designed for those working with Heavy Electric Vehicles and includes IMI Level 3 Award in Heavy Electric/Hybrid Vehicle System Repair and Replacement and IMI Level 4 Award in the Diagnosis, Testing and Repair of Electric/Hybrid Vehicles and Components.

The funded Skills Bootcamp covers 60 hours of structured training, delivered through a combination of practical and theory sessions. It delivers job-ready skills aligned to regional workforce demands and is built to bridge the gap between talent supply and industry need in the fast-evolving electric commercial vehicle sector.

Matt Cumming, Training Manager at Pelican EV Automotive Training, commented:

“We’re proud to offer funded access to IMI Level 3 and 4 qualifications as part of the Skills Bootcamp programme. With the rise of high-voltage commercial vehicles, there is a critical need to ensure technicians are equipped with the right knowledge, practical skills, and safety procedures to work on these systems. This programme supports both individual development and wider fleet readiness.”

Pelican’s training is aligned to real-world electric vehicle platforms used across the UK bus, coach, and truck industry. All training is delivered face-to-face by qualified trainers with extensive industry experience.

The Skills Bootcamp is open to individuals and employers, with limited funded spaces available. Employers can also benefit from tailored training options to meet the specific needs of their fleet and maintenance teams.
